Dontpokethedragon flies high at Georgian Downs

Eight harness races were on the card at Georgian Downs Tuesday night. The biggest betting longshots came in the first and final race of the night. However, they were only at 5-1 and 7-1 odds at post-time.

The 5-1 Cantstopthefeelin (Dail) completed the minor upset to kick off the night in the first race. The six-year-old mare had to settle in the back of the pack once the race started because she lined up in post position eight. Bradly Harris began to make his move when the field approached the half-mile station, but they still had a lot of ground to make up. Cantstopthefeelin hard third place secured by the stretch and closed late to win by a neck.

CANTSTOPTHEFEELIN REPLAY

Cantstopthefeelin now has eight wins and has earned $36,299 in 2023. This is also back-to-back wins since being under trainer Katelyn Graham. She did not need much time to rest as her last race was only a few days ago, on July 29.

Frownies Miracle (Warrawee Needy) was only slightly more of a longshot at 7-1 in the night’s last race. The six-year-old gelding found himself in a nice pocket trip for most of the race.

Samuel Fillion patiently waited until he was about to hit the stretch to make a move and won by a few lengths. This is the fourth win of the year and the tenth lifetime for Frownies Miracle. He paced the mile in 1:53.1, only one-fifth of a second off his lifetime mark, which he accomplished at Woodbine Mohawk Park early this year.

FROWNIES MIRACLE REPLAY

The fastest mile time of the evening came in the seventh race with Dontpokethedragon (Custard The Dragon). The Alberta-bred gelding paced the mile in 1:52.1 and earned his third win of the year with Travis Cullen in the bike. Cullen has two wins on the night and is now at 146 this year.

DONTPOKETHEDRAGON REPLAY

Georgian Downs continues racing on Aug. 5 at 7:15 p.m. EDT.
