Who won the Qatar Grand Prix in 2023?

There was no edition of the Qatar Grand Prix in 2023, with the Fifa World Cup instead taking place in the country at the time. The 2021 Grand Prix was the inaugural edition of the race, itself a late replacement for the Australian Grand Prix due to complications surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2023 onwards, Formula 1 has a 10-year contract in place for the race.

In 2021, Lewis Hamilton was the winner, with Max coming in second place. Third on the podium was Fernando Alonso - at the time his first podium finish in 14 years.

What types of bets can I make on the Qatar Grand Prix 2023?

As we’ve mentioned already, there are lots of different ways to bet on the Qatar Grand Prix. in this section, we’re taking a look at some of the most popular markets along with the odds available at UK bookmakers now.

 Qatar Grand Prix 2023 winner

The red hot favourite in this market has won thirteen races out of sixteen so far this season, and needs just three points in Qatar to confirm his championship victory with 5 races to spare. Max Verstappen and his team at Red Bull have been imperious this season, and the bookmakers have him as odds-on favourite to come out on top.

Still, of the three times he hasn’t managed to win this season, one of them was just a couple of weeks ago in Singapore. He’s also yet to win in Lusail, finishing second in his only other appearance at the Qatar Grand Prix. While Max is justifiably a big favourite, it’s not quite a foregone conclusion. Check out all the odds below:

 Podium finish

A podium finish bet means you are betting on a driver to finish first, second or third. It’s a great choice to give yourself multiple chances of winning, and as an avenue into betting on someone who isn’t Max Verstappen, given his dominance of F1 this season.

The odds on podium finish bets reflect the fact that it’s effectively a triple chance bet, with finishing anywhere on the podium being enough to win your bet. Both Red Bull drivers appear in the top five favourites, along with McLaren - who seem to have made a breakthrough with their car over the last couple of months.

️ Winning constructor

This time, you’re betting on the team rather than the driver. If either driver finishes first, you win your bet, giving you two chances to win. Red Bull have already sealed the constructors’ championship this year, and are unsurprisingly big favourites in this category. Still, as we’ve mentioned, McLaren are looking very tasty in the second half of the season and both drivers are in good form.

All the odds are below:

 Fastest lap

The fastest lap is like a mini-competition within the regular race, and it’s a popular betting market with UK bookmakers. One advantage of this market is that, provided your driver doesn’t withdraw, your bet is theoretically alive right until the end of the race. It’s also a much more open market than betting on the overall winner, with 7 different fastest-lap winners this season compared with just 3 race winners.

Red Bull’s car has been dominant this season, but McLaren have made strides of late. Both facts are reflected in the betting lines, which you can see below:

⚔️ Head-to-head matchups

Head-to-head matchups are your way into betting on drivers further down the pecking order, or pitting some of the in-form drivers against each other directly. With this type of bet, you are simply betting on one specific driver to finish ahead of another. Their overall position in the race - and indeed, the winner - is irrelevant to the outcome.

Head-to-heads are also a great way to find bets that are more like a coin flip, theoretically better if you’re looking for a sweat throughout the duration of the race.

  • Lando Norris 7/20 vs Lewis Hamilton 2/1 - BetUK

What is the Qatar Grand Prix starting grid?

Red Bull have been dominating the field all season and both drivers are expecting to claim a strong position on the starting grid. Don’t rule out a McLaren driver claiming a pole, however, while Carlos Sainz has two poles in his last three races.

What bonuses are the best for F1 betting?

Bonuses are a big part of the marketing strategy for UK bookmakers, especially in the case of welcome bonuses for new members. For the most part, the bonuses and promotions you can pick up for joining a bookie are versatile and can be used on whatever sport you want - including Formula 1.

It’s common to receive free bets when you sign up, usually in exchange for making a small deposit or placing a bet of your own first. For instance, bet365 is handing out £30 in free bonus bets when you top up your account by £10. These bonuses can be taken straight to the Formula 1 section to bet on any market you like.

This offer from bet365is a nice middle ground, friendly for lower stakes gamblers but valuable for higher-stakes bettors too. You can find other bonuses out there that tip the balance in either direction: some higher value free bets in exchange for a greater financial outlay on your behalf, or on the other hand, sometimes a £5 or £10 bonus bet totally free with no deposit required.

All of that goes to show that the best bet for Formula 1 gambling really all depends on your bankroll and your gambling habits, as well as the actual offers out there.

What’s the F1 race schedule for 2023?

There are five Formula 1 races left in the 2023 season after the Qatar Grand Prix, which you can see below. Thanks to Red Bull’s dominance this year, the main championships are all but decided - with Max just 3 points away from his victory and the constructors’ championship already sealed. But there is plenty to play for in the remaining races this year, including the best of the rest crowns and the chance to finish strong ahead of next season.

Remaining 2023 schedule:

  • United States Grand Prix
  • Mexico City Grand Prix
  • São Paulo Grand Prix
  • Las Vegas Grand Prix
  • Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Can you bet live on the Qatar Grand Prix?

You certainly can. Formula 1 is one of the most exciting sports you can bet on live, with the potential for drastic split-second changes to the course of the race at literally every moment. Analysing the pitting strategies of the teams and timing your bets accordingly, can be a very profitable strategy in terms of getting the best odds for your bets. Plus there are other variables that are pretty much outside of the drivers’ and teams’ control, like safety cars and the weather.

Can I stream the Qatar Grand Prix on UK bookies?

While you can of lots of bookies, including the latest updates as they happen, you can’t actually stream the event there. To watch the Qatar Grand Prix in the UK, you’ll need to be tuned into Sky Sports F1.

Which UK bookies have the best Qatar Grand Prix odds?

Luckily for us, the UK is not short of great bookmakers who offer all kinds of action on Formula 1. In fact, it’s true to say that there is a fair bit of overlap between the different options, with lots of the same betting markets appearing on different sites. That said, a couple of bookmakers do arguably have the edge over the rest of the crowd.

BetUK was originally founded as more of an online casino, but in recent years it has made considerable strides into the UK sports betting scene - thanks in part to a partnership with Man City. BetUK regularly has the best odds on a variety of Formula 1 markets, and it’s no coincidence that it features heavily in our odds lists above. The Formula 1 section of the site is deep and detailed, with lots of betting markets and some great explainer articles on how the sport works too.

If BetUK is a good entry point, bet365 is worth a look for intermediate bettors and higher. It’s an incredibly detailed and versatile sportsbook, with lots of different ways to bet on just about every sport you can think of, including F1. There are also great features to help with analysis and betting strategy, including tons of information and statistics on every sport.

Finally, and something a little different, Spreadex is a sports betting platform that incorporates elements of financial trading. Its Formula 1 betting markets are unlike any others you’ll find at UK bookmakers, and it’s ideal if you want a shake up from the more traditional betting options.
