F1 Dates, 2023 Season

After a crazy off-season with a team principal silly season and rumors and fantasy scenarios of a potential expansion of the F1 grid, it’s almost time for the teams to break cover and present their 2023 cars, driver lineups, and liveries. We’ve created this primer of the key F1 dates in 2023.

We’ll break down the most important dates on the F1 schedule. Looking forward to make a few preseason recommendations on where to find more betting opportunities with F1 odds and a special focus on a few specific circuits and Grand Prix.

Formula 1 Launch Season and Winter Testing

While we don’t have as high of an anticipated launch season as 2022, with minimal changes to the technical regulations. February has the ten Formula 1 teams launching at least their liveries and introducing their driver lineups for 2023. 

Formula 1 Launch Season – February 3rd – 16th

One of our major questions that could be answered during launch season is regarding how many teams will be chasing down a more Red Bull-style car. This enabled Red Bull to dial in rake as the season progressed, allowing the RB-18 to operate efficiently over a wider array of ride heights.

Will we see teams follow Red Bull down the path of a push-rod rear suspension and pull–rod suspension at the front, which gave Red Bull the best control over the airflow around the RB-18 in 2023? 

The defending double World Champions are the focal point of the first of many key F1 dates on the calendar. Red Bull will debut the RB-19 on February 3rd in New York City, with sister squad AlphaTauri launching in New York on February 11th. 

Williams will be second to launch their 2023 car on February 6th, while Alpine is currently scheduled to be the final team to launch their 2023 F1 car on February 16th, 2023. The only team without a confirmed launch date as of publication is Haas. 

Formula 1 Winter Testing – February 23rd-25th

Among the most wonderful times of the year and the most important F1 dates on the Calendar is Winter testing, which takes place February 23rd -25th from Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain.

This is where the off-season development path merges with lessons from last season, and the rubber meets the road. Winter testing gives us an insight into where each team’s 2023 baseline to build from will be and will help establish early season favorites in F1 odds. 

Yes, Red Bull and Ferrari will be favorites coming out of preseason testing, and we’ll see how the midfield will be ranked and how new drivers operate within their new teams. 

However, the team under the microscope at Winter testing will be Mercedes as we all search through data to find out if Mercedes is truly back in the mix at the front of the grid.

The Highlights of the 2023 Formula 1 Schedule

Before reviewing the highlighted F1 dates, the 2023 Formula 1 calendar was supposed to have 24 Grand Prix on the calendar. However, the Chinese Grand Prix has been canceled for a third season. 

While Formula 1 and the FIA would like to replace the race on the calendar, the F1 schedule for 2023 currently sits at 23 Grand Prix from March 5th to the season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.  

Bahrain Grand Prix – March 3rd to 5th

There is nothing like a Formula 1 Grand Prix under the lights, and we kick the 2023 season off from the home of 2023 Winter Testing, the Bahrain Internation Circuit in Sakhir. 

Opening day in any sport is a highlight of the calendar, and F1 is no exception: there will be no F1 standings to review. Every team will be filled with hopeful optimism, and fans can be excited and strap in because the F1 season is underway!

Six F1 Sprint Weekends

However, as the season progresses, the F1 standings become more of a focus. Formula 1 has expanded the number of F1 Sprint races from three to six for the 2023 season. Each of these Sprint races gives Formula 1 teams and drivers the ability to score more points but comes with the potential to crush their chances in the Grand Prix the next day.

The Crown Jewels: Monaco, Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone, and Las Vegas

Monaco Grand Prix – May 26th – 28th

The Monaco Grand Prix is long considered one of the three Crown Jewels on the motorsports calendar, alongside the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indy 500. 

Regardless of how the racing at Monaco is with the current era of F1 cars, as long as the Monaco Grand Prix is on the calendar, it is one of the most important dates on the F1 calendar.

British/United Kingdom Grand Prix – July 7th – 9th

While every circuit has its characteristics, we all adore and loathe. Everyone has a special reverence for the home of British Motorsports, Silverstone. There is something about seeing Formula 1 cars taking Abbey (turn 1) flat-out that never gets old. 

Silverstone, Suzuka in Japan, and Monza in Italy are among the longer-tenured circuits on the calendar that should be made among the most important F1 dates annually. 

Belgian Grand Prix – July 28th – 30th

The Belgian Grand Prix and Spa-Francorchamps are one of the heart-and-soul circuits of Formula 1 and should be a mainstay on future F1 calendars. Spa-Francorchamps is also among the key F1 dates and a time to take stock of the F1 standings as we head into the Summer Break (from July 30th to August 25th).

The MAIN EVENT: The 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix – November 16th – 18th

As Formula 1 fans, we love night races. Be it the season opener in Bahrain, the season-closing event in Abu Dhabi, the super-fast street track in Jeddah, or the original night race in Singapore, there is something special about Formula 1 under the lights. 

However, there is no more sought-after ticket and likely no visual spectacle that will match the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix will be the third Formula 1 Grand Prix in the United States in 2023, with the Miami Grand Prix returning for a second season. The home of Formula 1 in America and a circuit you should love, Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas maintains its spot on the schedule. 

However, there are no more important F1 dates on the calendar than the night Formula 1 takes over the Vegas Strip for the penultimate Grand Prix of the 2023 season.
