F1: Azerbaijan Grand Prix Betting Preview and Prediction

Formula 1’s Spring break is finally over, and F1 returns with the first Sprint Race weekend of the 2023 season. A new sprint weekend format enables four sessions of meaningful on-track action to bet on, with Red Bull at the front of the field and many like McLaren and Mercedes scheduled to bring significant updates to Baku.

While the Red Bulls are likely to drive off into the distance at Baku, we’ll review a variety of betting lines, recent performances, and which teams are bringing upgrades that could change the competitive order in our Azerbaijan Grand Prix prediction.

We have three sets of F1 odds to consider for our Azerbaijan Grand Prix prediction.

Here are the top seven options to win the Sprint Race, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and to finish in the top six:

Among the multitude of prop bet lines for this weekend’s Grand Prix, here are a few other options to consider for your F1 picks:

  • Red Bull Racing (-700) as the winning constructor
  • Red Bull’s (-300), Mercedes’ (-200) and Aston Martin’s (-190) to finish in the points
  • McLaren’s Lando Norris (+120) or Oscar Piastri (+225) to sneak into the points in a heavily upgraded MCL60.

Azerbaijan Grand Prix | Baku City Circuit

51 laps (306.049 km/190.170 mi) | One lap: 20 turns over 6.003 km (3.730 mi)

Location of the race: Baku, Azerbaijan.

Sprint: Saturday, April 29th, 9:00 AM ET | Grand Prix: Sunday, April 30th, 2023, 7:00 AM ET

Red Bull has won three of the previous five Azerbaijan Grand Prix, winning back-to-back races, with Sergio Pérez winning in 2021 and Max Verstappen winning in 2022.

Mercedes is the only other constructor to have won in Azerbaijan, with Lewis Hamilton winning in 2018. Alfa Romero’s Valtteri Bottas – who is not likely to finish in the points in 2023 – won for Mercedes in Baku for in 2019.

Red Bull and reigning two-time Drivers’ World Champion Max Verstappen sit atop the F1 standings and will be the betting favorite on all Formula 1 betting lines until someone emerges with a car that can challenge the RB-19 on race pace.

The only thing keeping a Red Bull from winning the F1 Sprint and Azerbaijan Grand Prix is if the reliability gremlins show up and cause havoc. For our Azerbaijan Grand Prix prediction, we’re taking both Red Bulls to finish in the points and the constructor itself to be the winning car on a track where Red Bull holds the most wins (three).

While Max might seem like a lock to win, Sergio Pérez is always a candidate to win on street circuits, with three of his four career wins coming on street circuits.

Unless Mercedes has something special in upgrades, we expect them to challenge the Aston Martins and Ferraris for the top six. We’re fading one of the Ferraris out of the top six in favor of Lance Stroll, who has two top-six finishes this season.

While F1’s “Anti-Hero” Fernando Alonso might drive the “Getaway Car” for a mega-pop star, he’s landed on the podium in three straight races and should be among your picks to finish in the top six and top ten.

To finish our Azerbaijan Grand Prix preview, here are our three picks:

  • Azerbaijan Sprint Race Winner: Max Verstappen
  • Azerbaijan Grand Prix Fastest Qualifier: Fernando Alonso
  • Azerbaijan Grand Prix Winner: Max Verstappen
