Max Verstappen lost for the first time in nearly five months last weekend but remains a heavy -350 favorite to defend his 2022 Japanese Grand Prix title this week. Read more in our Formula 1 odds below.

Someone not named Max Verstappen won a race last week? Is this a fake video?

Yes, Ferrari's Carlos Sainz went wire-to-wire to capture his second career win after Verstappen struggled in qualifying and wasn't able to make up enough ground on Sunday.

However, that doesn't appear to be making a huge dent in his odds for this week's Japanese Grand Prix. He's the defending champion here at Suzuka Circuit and the Formula 1 odds suggest he'll be hard to beat two weeks in a row.

Japanese Grand Prix 2023 pre-qualifying favorites

Max Verstappen (-350)

Verstappen's F1 record of 10 straight victories came to an end in Singapore. He struggled in qualifying (P11) and finished fifth in the tough overtaking conditions of the street circuit despite getting as high as second.

However, that doesn't change much in terms of his odds here in Japan. He's in the -350 range as he looks to defend his title from a season ago.

Sergio Perez (+1,100)

Sergio Perez has been a mainstay in the No. 2 spot as he drives alongside Verstappen in the second Red Bull, however, his results have been up and down for much of the season.

Like his teammate, Perez struggled in Singapore. He finished P13 in qualifying and was only able to get up to eighth on Sunday.

Lando Norris (+1,200)

McLaren's Lando Norris has made the most of the second half of the season and continues to knock on the door of his first F1 victory.

He's recorded three second-place finishes in his last six races, including last week in Singapore where he held off the two Mercedes down the stretch.

Understanding F1 betting odds

The most popular way to bet on Formula 1 odds is by simply picking the winner of a particular race. Other popular F1 betting options include which car/constructor will win and whether or not a particular race car driver will end up on the podium with a Top-3 finish.

F1 race odds usually look like this:

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to profit $1,400 if Perez wins that particular race. If one driver is especially dominant, you might see a minus sign (-) ahead of that driver's odds like this:

This means that you would need to bet $120 to win $100 on Verstappen winning the race.
