Max Verstappen heads into the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix as the heavy favourite as he looks to make it three race victories in succession.

After consecutive successes in Miami and Monaco, the Red Bull man now goes in search of a third at the Circuit de Catalunya.

He took the race victory here last season, whilst his first ever chequered flagged finish also came on Spanish soil at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.

Verstappen will be chased by Spanish home favourite Fernando Alonso this time around though, who continues to excel for Aston Martin this season, whilst Sergio Perez will additionally be lurking as he looks to make amends for his poor showing last weekend.

Ahead of the action getting underway, The Sporting News dives through all of the odds to give you the best bets and tips for the upcoming 2023 Spanish Grand Prix.

F1 Spanish Grand Prix 2023 odds to win

As with each race so far this season, Red Bull's Max Verstappen has been made the heavy favourite by the bookmakers to win the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix.

Victory last time out in Monaco plus Sergio Perez's poor weekend performance have pushed Verstappen all the way down to -250 with BetMGM to take the chequered flag on the outskirts of Barcelona.

Perez remains second favourite here despite last weekend's difficulties, followed behind by in-form Spanish veteran Fernando Alonso who will be desperate to win on his return to home soil.

Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Carlos Sainz are priced as outsiders here.

F1 Spanish Grand Prix 2023: Best bet

  • Pick: Fernando Alonso to finish on the podium
  • Odds: -180 (BetMGM)

Whilst his pricing at -180 with BetMGM may not offer much value for money, backing Fernando Alonso to finish on the podium during his home race seems a no brainer this weekend.

So far this season he's finished in the top three in five out of the six races, whilst the only one where he's finished outside saw him come home P4 in Azerbaijan.

His great recent form coupled with his Aston Martin's impressive reliability and pace so far this season makes him a very likely candidate for another podium finish here.

F1 Spanish Grand Prix 2023: Prop bet

  • Pick: Winning margin to be over 10 seconds
  • Odds: 1/1 (SkyBet)

Given Verstappen's incredible form of late, it's hard to not see him run away with victory again this weekend.

On a circuit like this one in Barcelona — which this season has also seen the final chicane removed which will aid his Red Bull car even further — that could end up by a long stretch, especially looking back over recent years.

Backing the winning margin of this race to be over 10 seconds should be the play then if we're looking for value. That's because four of the last five Spanish Grand Prix have cleared that winning margin, including each of the last three.

F1 Spanish Grand Prix 2023: Flier bet

  • Pick: Esteban Ocon to finish in the top six
  • Odds: +250 (BetMGM)

After his podium finish in Monaco last weekend thanks to his third-placed finish, why not back Alpine's Esteban Ocon for another strong finish in Spain on Sunday?

The Frenchman has shown good form of late with a points finish the race before in Miami coupled with his P3 finish last time out.

Alpine too seem to have turned a corner of late in terms of performance. That can be seen through Ocon's latest results but also too with teammate Pierre Gasly's who has finished P9 and P7 in his last two races compared to P14 and P13 the two before.

For reference, Ocon's prior five finishes at the Spanish Grand Prix have included three points-paying performances including one P5 finish.
