FanDuel Thanksgiving bonus: Lions vs. Packers promo

With three games on Thanksgiving Day, the NFL is giving sports bettors quite the holiday week. Kicking off all the Thanksgiving action is an early afternoon matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers.

The 8-2 Lions hare off to their best start since Kennedy was in office, so it’s never been a better time to bet big and win big with Michigan’s top sportsbooks. Just on Sunday, they had a scare against the Chicago Bears but made a comeback win to advance to 8-2. Now they’re the second team in the entire league, just behind the 9-1 Philadephia Eagles. A game against the 4-6 Green Bay Packers shouldn’t do too much to slow the Lions roll.

But let’s look closer at the odds and a betting preview for the two teams. Detroit is the 7.5-point favorite, with oddsmakers expecting them to lead by a comfortable margin. Here are the main game odds for the Lions vs. Packers on FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Detroit Lions are the kings of the NFC North and second in the NFL overall, wedged between the 9-1 Eagles and the 8-3 Baltimore Ravens. The Lions’ 8-2 record is history-making – they haven’t had this record in over 60 years, and this is their first in the Super Bowl era.

Since they lost to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7, they’ve righted the ship and are on a three-game win streak that they’ll aim to stretch to four on Thanksgiving Day.

Detroit’s record is the same at home and on the road: four wins and one loss in each scenario. While playing on the home field isn’t an automatic advantage, it also doesn’t hurt. Factor in that Green Bay is worse on the road. The Packers’ record of 4-6 deteriorates to 1-4 when they’re not the home team

Here’s the concern for the Lions. They struggled on Sunday against a 3-8 Bears team that they arguably should’ve steamrolled. Sure, the Bears were riding the high of the return of QB Justin Fields, but still, it doesn’t give you confidence.

The Lions found a way to come back and score 17 points in the final three minutes, though were the Bears also trying to lose? Very possible, considering they aren’t set up for a playoff spot right now.

In the game against the Bears, Detroit QB Jared Goff threw for 236 passing yards – a decent amount, though not his best. They’re second in the league in yards per game and sixth in scoring.

This is the second meeting between the Lions and Packers in an NFC North rivalry schedule. In Week 4, Detroit won 34-20. That was the most points the Packers have allowed in a single game for this whole season.

We expect they’ll be out for revenge in the Thanksgiving game on such a big stage. But the question is whether that even matters.

Green Bay has been mediocre this season, but they are coming off a 23-20 win against the LA Chargers. QB Jordan Love showed up in a big way, passing of 322 yards – the most of his career. He’s 32nd in the NFL in completion percentage, but he’s completed over 67 percent in two of his last three games.

On the downside, the Packers lost their best talent in the run game, Aaron Jones.

The Lions are one of the best teams in the league with a high-powered offense that’s second in total offense, fourth in passing, fifth in rushing, and sixth in scoring. Detroit has also covered in six straight home games against the Packers.
