Five Circuits That Formula 1 Should Add to the Calendar

As Formula 1 continues its global boom, which circuits would make great additions to the future 1 race calendar?

Formula 1 will travel to 24 different venues in 2023. Many modern F1 circuits lack the excitement and challenge for drivers and entertainment for viewers.

Kyalami in South Africa hosted the South African Grand Prix between 1967 and 1985. It returned for two years in 1992 and 1993. Speculation is swirling about its addition to the Formula 1 calendar. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has met with Kyalamis' representatives.

Magny-Cours in France is one of the circuits Formula 1 should add to the calendar. It was a fast and dynamic track which gave us plenty of action in its 17 years. In 1999 Heinz-Harald Frentzen won for Jordan. Michael Schumacher won his fifth World Championship there in 2002.

Magny-Cours has not been on the Formula 1 calendar since 2008. Paul Ricard is also off the calendar.

Hermann Tilke designed some bad circuits for Formula 1. His best design is Sepang Circuit in Malaysia. Sepan Circuit appeared on the calendar between 1999 and 2017.

Weather was an aspect of the race. There were instances in 2009 when the races was abandoned and half-points were given. In 2001, a deluge caused the Safety Car to be deployed. Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello came through to complete an unlikely one-two in Malaysia.

Sepang is rumoured to be added to the Formula 1 calendar for 2022.

Adelaide Street Circuit hosted some memorable Grands Prix between 1985 and 1995. The street circuit is challenging with a variance in chicanes, fast and slow corners and one long back-straight. 1986 saw two Championship deciders, two rain-affected races, the last win of Ayrton Senna’s career and a win by two laps. Alain Prost won the championship after a tire blowout.

Laguna Seca is a short circuit, 2.2 miles long, situated in California. It is currently a Grade Two circuit on the classification of the FIA. LagunaSeca has hosted IndyCar racing, endurance races and motorcycle races. It would need to move up to Grade One for Formula 1.
