Florida Football: DJ Lagway among most-anticipated video game players

Maybe you’re like me and have spent the last decade or so preserving your copy of NCAA Football 14 and pretending that college football video games still exist, but the odds are significantly higher that you gave up on playing with your favorite college football team in 4K or on a next-generation console since the death of the beloved series.

Well… it’s time to reapply the Cheetoh dust to your fingers and get ready to dive back into your childhood. NCAA football video games are returning in 2024, and Florida fans will be able to play as their favorite Gators and student-athletes from around the country.

But who are fans most excited about playing as?

That’s the question that the folks at 247Sports tackled now that we’re an assumed year or so out from the most anticipated title in sports gaming history releases.

As one might expect, there are plenty of wide receivers, running backs and tight ends on the list. This is a football game after all, and if Madden taught us anything it’s that speed is king. But, everyone’s favorite position in football video games is the quarterback, and Florida’s signal caller of the future, DJ Lagway, made the cut.

“Considering the current vacuum at quarterback in Gainesville, Florida, there is a real chance that Lagway could start as a true freshman in 2024,” the 247Sports list read. “And if he’s the guy, he is going to be a ton of fun.”

It’s hard to argue with that assessment, especially when Lagway is rated the top dual-threat quarterback in his class. He might not be old school Michael Vick in Madden good, but that’s the mold his character model will likely be built around.

Of course, the guy most Florida fans wish they could play with is Anthony Richardson (honorable mention to Kyle Pitts). Lagway will have to do, though, and he’s got the same physical body as Richardson to please anyone who is still unhappy.

There are infinite answers to this question, though, so don’t let 247Sports decide which player will be the most fun for you. Maybe you’ll even create your own player and add him to the roster.
