Euro 2024 qualifier – Scotland v Georgia
Tuesday, June 20 – 7,45pm
Hampden Park, Glasgow
TV: Viaplay, 7:45pm

Georgia +2

Few would have predicted that Scotland and Georgia would make up the top two spots of Group A as the qualifiers enter their fourth round of fixtures, but that is exactly where the two nations find themselves.

Scotland have one foot at Euro 2024 after a brilliant home win against Spain and a come-from-behind away win in Norway, while Georgia have four points from two games after a home draw against Norway and an away win against Cyprus.

The Scots face a stern test against a Georgian side that is unbeaten since October 2021, a run of 12 games, although the majority of those games were played against sides ranked lower than them. However, they have recorded impressive wins over the likes of Sweden and Bosnia in that run (in competitive games) and recently held Norway to a draw.

The away side will make life incredibly difficult for the hosts on Tuesday, who will be expected to take the game to their opponents and may have to settle for a scrappy one-goal victory.

Over 9.5 Corners

Scotland have only won three corners in each of their last two games against Spain and Norway, but those games saw their opponents dominate possession and territory. It is therefore understandable that Scotland didn’t win a significant number of corners against Spain or Norway, but they did get eight against Cyprus in their opening qualifier.

Georgia are significantly better than Cyprus, but Scotland will be expected to take the game to them in a similar manner and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them win a large volume of corners, especially if the game remains 0-0 for a long period. The travelling side will also cause Scotland problems and are likely to at least win a few corners of their own.

Over 3.5 Cards

Scotland’s disciplinary record has not exactly been perfect in qualifying so far. They’ve picked up 10 yellow cards in three games at a rate of over three per game and picked up four in their recent win over Norway.

Georgia, on the other hand, have averaged two yellow cards per game in qualifying and are likely to at least match that average at Hampden. It could be a relatively fiery occasion if Georgia manage to frustrate Scotland.

Scott McTominay to have 2 or More Shots on Target

It seems like a long time ago, but it was only in March when Scott McTominay scored braces in back-to-back games for Scotland in their opening wins over Cyprus and Spain. Only Denmark’s Rasmus Hojlund has scored more goals than McTominay in qualifying so far and the Manchester United midfielder is likely to cause Georgia a problem or two on Tuesday.

McTominay is a much bigger goal threat for Scotland than he is for United and he is good value to register two shots on target when Georgia come to town.
