Scotland vs. Spain Odds, Predictions & Betting Tips

Scotland play their second game of their Euro 2024 qualification campaign on Tuesday evening as they welcome Spain to Hampden Park. Here at BettingOdds.com we’ve provided you with two tips for the game which we think represent good value in the betting markets.

Scott McTominay came off the bench and scored a second-half brace as Scotland brushed aside Cyprus with a 3-0 win on Saturday. Steve Clarke's side have been drawn in Group A for qualification to next summer’s finals in Germany, and along with Cyprus and Spain, they will play Norway and Georgia. 

Spain also kicked-off their European Championship qualifying campaign with a 3-0 victory on Saturday as they saw off an Erling ‘Haaland-less’ Norway side 3-0 in Malaga. The last time Spain won a major tournament was back in 2012, with Luis de la Fuente tasked with guiding the national side to glory after the departure of Luis Enrique.

John McGinn & Andy Robertson to commit 1+ foul

Both of our punts on Tuesday evening concern players who play a more advanced role for their country than they do for their club sides in the Premier League. John McGinn and Andy Robertson are the two players in question and we are backing them to both commit one or more fouls for our first selection at 5/4.

Let’s start with McGinn, the Aston Villa midfielder often takes up more of a number ten role for his national side and when facing Cyprus at the weekend, he was on the scoresheet, but also gave away three fouls. 

In his last eight competitive internationals, McGinn has cleared the 1+ foul line in seven of them, and when looking at the fouls totals from those eight matches they read 3,2,1,1,0,4,1,3.

Andy Robertson gave away two fouls when Scotland met Cyprus on Saturday and also provided an assist for Scott McTominay’s second of the game. The Liverpool left-back often features higher up that wing for Scotland and should have plenty of defensive duties to attend to on Tuesday.

Robertson will also have to help deal with Dani Olmo on the right-side of attack for the visitors. Olmo was the second most fouled Spain player at the World Cup after Gavi and after Steve Clarke’s comments on Monday saying “We don’t speak about the playoff. We want to qualify directly", we feel Scotland should be well up for this game against Spain.

Against Cyprus on Saturday, Robertson conceded two fouls and has now given away 1+ in four of his last six competitive international matches. As mentioned earlier, playing the double with both McGinn and Robertson to concede 1+ foul is 5/4, but we’ll also be having a bit of loose change on both players to clear the 2+ fouls line at 9/1. Steve Clarke is desperate for his team to beat Spain for the first time since 1984 and all his pre-match comments point to his side being fired up for this one.
