GRANT DAWSON VS BOBBY GREEN LOWDOWN

Grant Dawson (20-1-1) headlines his first UFC event which he has earnt by going unbeaten in all nine of his octagon appearances. It has not been plain sailing fighting tough opponents as well as the scales. He moved up to lightweight in 2021 and after collecting his first win in the division he fought to a draw with Ricky Glenn (2021). Since then, he submitted Jared Gordon (2022) and Mark Madsen (2022) before outpointing Damir Ismagulov back in July.

He finally gets his big-name opponent. Bobby Green (30-14-1(1)) steps out for his 23walk to the octagon. He has fought killers including the current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev (2022). He stepped up on short notice inevitably getting mauled in the first round and then went on to fight Drew Dober (2022). Unfortunately for him, he got knocked out again and then had that ‘no contest’ with Gordon (2023) after the clash of heads but he is coming off the biggest win of his career submitting Tony Ferguson at UFC 291.

GRANT DAWSON VS BOBBY GREEN PREDICTION

Both fighters are at opposing ends of their careers, but they cross paths at the top of their game. They match-up very similarly physically, but they will approach this very differently.

Dawson has gone unbeaten in the UFC thanks to his grappling and Green is a striker by trade assassinating top lightweights for over a decade. Dawson can strike and Green wrestle, but their routes to victory are clear and that will be for Dawson to keep Green on his back and for Green to defend the takedowns and light him up with his hands.

The veteran has less room for error and his takedown defence will have to be on point for 25 minutes. That said, Dawson has never gone past the third round and we can see Green sprawling well for two rounds at least running Dawson’s gas tank down.

We feel Dawson will seal more takedowns as the fight goes on assuming enough control time to sway the judges. However, Green will make him work very hard and will find his chin in the meantime. Considering the odds, he is very tempting, but his lack of knockout power will limit him here.
