Gulfport Wins Bashford Manor By Widest Margin Ever, Secures Churchill Training Title For Asmussen On Closing Day
Gulfport won Bashford Manor by the largest margin in the history of the six-furlong juvenile sprint. The Uncle Mo colt broke fast from the gate and widened his lead down the stretch. Brian Hernandez Jr. rode the winner for owners Bill and Corrine Heiligbrodt. Steve Asmussen clinched his 26th Churchill Downs training title. The Bashfords Manor was first run in 1902. It is named for the former Louisville Thoroughbred breeding and racing farm. George J. Jenson was the owner.
