Hargis: Vols fall flat with title hopes on the line
No. 5 Tennessee lost to South Carolina, which is ranked 92nd in the nation. The game ruined the Vols' hopes of making the College Football Playoff. The team's defense was terrible, giving up 21 points in 21 snaps and 355 yards. South Carolin moved the ball well and scored 63 points. Spencer Rattler was the star quarterback for the Gamecocks. He completed 30 of 37 passes for 438 yards and a school-record six touchdowns. It was a game that the team needed to win to stay in contention for a spot in CFP.
Tennessee lost to South Carolina by one point. The Vols were 6-1 and in line to reach the Southeastern Conference championship game. They lost at Memphis in 1996. Next week they travel to play Vanderbilt. They are one of the teams with the best odds to make the College Football Playoff.
