Haydock John of Gaunt Stakes Day horse racing tips beside busy Saturday racecard

Haydock hosts a great card of racing on Saturday alongside some meetings at Beverley, Bangor, Catterick, Punchestown, Chepstow and Lingfield!

The focus is of course on the listed and group races at Haydock, the Sky Bet Achilles Stakes, Reverence Handicap, Sky Bet Handicap, Lester Piggott Stakes and John of Gaunt Stakes.

Seven races with a few big field handicaps amid the group action is ideal for punters, especially those looking to get some each-way profit.

Though there's definitely value to be had in the handicaps elsewhere and not just on the flat, but the jump meetings at Bangor and Punchestown too.

It's set to be a scorcher across the UK and finding horses that don't mind the heat and don't often sweat before hand might be key in finding the winners here.

Haydock betting tips

1.15, Achilles Stakes: Nymphadora 8/1

The racing kicks off with a great field of 15 in the listed race over 5f for three-year-olds and over.

And it's brought in plenty of big hitters too with Equilateral, rated 107, the current early favourite.

He rolled back the years somewhat, under Frankie Dettori, with a great second placed behind Dramatised in the Group 2 Temple Stakes here two weeks ago and could be back to his old self.

But Nymphadora looks like the value pick of them all at this point.

8/1 in most cases and has been in fine form for Andrew Balding and the now four-year-old looks like progressing off a mark of 101.

Her seasonal debut was disappointing but bounced back at Chester in the Stellar to win ahead of King's Lynn under Oisin Murphy.

The jockey is in fine form too and likely retaining the ride will get a great tune out of her once again.

1.50, Reverance Handicap: Lucky Man 11/1

Ground isn't likely to be an issue until later in the afternoon if the forecast rain develops like it's supposed to.

And as it should remain good ground there are already concerns for the entered Hyperfocus who has won on course and distance before but clearly prefers a bit of cut in the ground - good to soft and beyond.

If the rain arrives earlier than expected however, 8/1 for Hyperfocus would make a great each-way punt.

What does appeal most - well ahead of the off - are a couple of the younger horses looking to make their mark in handicaps.

Lucky Man already has Billy Loughnane confirmed to be riding and should bounce back after a below par run on season debut, but he might have needed the run.

He was just 11/1 in that Class 2 handicap with 21 runners, and should return back to form seen last year where he was a neck behind Gale Force Maya and beating the likes of Aphelios off a similar rating.

3.00, Lester Piggott Stakes: Modaara 5/1

This Group 3 1m4f contest looks open with 11 runners and the already confirmed group level runners Time Lock, Eternal Pearl and Mimikyu lead the betting.

But Modaara is unexposed with just three runs to her name and won by a huge margin at Kempton on step up to 1m4f, despite carrying nearly two stone more than her closest rivals.

This Dubawi filly could be much better than her mark and that's reflected in the early price of just 5/1 up against Group 2 filly winner Mimikyu.

3.35, John of Gaunt Stakes: Aldaary 7/4

Aldaary is an impressive William Haggas-trained gelding who hasn't been seen since May 2022.

But he does well when fresh and looks like justifying a short price in the colours of Shadwell Estate, under Jim Crowley.

The majority of his success has come on softer ground but has run well in big fields on good to firm, so this isn't enough to rule him out here.

But if the forecast rain is anything to go by, he might get his ideal conditions, with water likely to sit on top of the dry ground.
