Holly Holm vs Mayra Bueno Silva

Location of the fight: UFC APEX, Las Vegas, NV.

Date and Time: Saturday, July 15. 10:00 PM ET main card start.

How to Watch: ESPN+

Holm is fresh off a win in March over Yana Santos.

Silva is coming off a submission victory over Lina Lansberg in February.

Holm is arguably a future UFC Hall of Famer, and she’s a former champion. She is currently 15-6 with 8 TKO/KOs in her MMA career. At the age of 41, there will always be questions about how she will look from now on when she steps foot in the octagon. She did well bouncing back from a loss last year.

The Jackson-Wink MMA trainee will always have good training partners and a good game plan going into fights. In her UFC career, she averages 3.17 significant strikes landed per minute and only 2.77 sig. strikes absorbed per minute. She has a professional boxing background, but her 78% takedown defense is very solid.

Silva is the No.10 ranked bantamweight in the world with a record of 10-2-1 with 8 finishes. She is a purple belt in BJJ and has recently made the move from Chute Boxe to American Top Team in the United States. She is priming for a run at the title.

The 31-year-old is coming in as the smaller fighter but has a much higher skillset on the ground to make up for it. Silva fights at a higher pace than Holm, averaging 4.20 sig. strikes landed per minute and absorbed 4.71. She also has a 10-year age differential in her favor.

The UFC odds for this fight have Holm as the -155 slight betting favorite over the +130 Silva. Holm has experience over her, and that’s probably why she gets the slight edge.

The over/under is set at 4.5 rounds, and the over has -185 odds. The Holm vs Silva betting lines haven’t all been released yet because it’s still early in fight week. Keep your eye on prop bets being available as the week progresses.

Looking at this matchup on the technical side, Holm knows how to fight her style very well. She is usually bigger than her opponents, and she uses that reach to stay at her comfortable range–which is very far away. Holm likes to hit and not get hit as much as possible, no matter how slow-moving the fights are.

Silva is very dangerous from her back and is better everywhere on the ground than Holm. Don’t be surprised if Silva tries to pull guard or trick Holm to get into her guard on the ground.

If you are making UFC picks this weekend, this is one of the toughest fights to pick. Holm is the better striker, but Silva is so dangerous on the ground that she only needs to get her hands on Holm once to potentially end the fight.

The official Holm vs Silva betting prediction is that Silva is going to win on Saturday night via submission. The under 4.5 rounds will hit as well. This one might be quicker than people think if Silva gets Holm in a bad position early on before they are sweaty.

Holm is getting outgrown by MMA, and her boxing skills and ability to win decisions are going to get tested on Saturday night. Silva is a savage that isn’t afraid to get hit to get her shots off.
