Horse racing venues in New York, Kentucky, California shift this week
Aqueduct, Churchill Downs and Los Alamitos will open new horse racing venues this week. The September meets at Churchill and LA will be exclusively on dirt. Turf racing has been shelved at LA and unavailable at Los Al. Woodbine Mile near Toronto offers $1.7 million for Jockey Club Derby and Jocke Club Oaks for 3-year-olds on turf for Saturday.
Woodbine has a high percentage of winning stakes favorites. Hot trainers are Mark Casse, Robert Tiller, Stuart Simon, Mike Trombetta, Rafael Hernandez, Patrick Husbands, Justin Stein, Kazushi Kimura and Josie Carroll.
Del Mar's 2022 summer season ended Sunday with a record average daily handle of $18.68 million. Canterbury Park, Monmouth and Emerald Downs are concluding their seasons this weekend. Gulfstream Park features the Our Dear Peggy Stakes for 2-year-old fillies Saturday. Golden Gate Fields presents the Golden Fields Turf Distaff.
