Houston Astros free agents 2023: World Series champions may lose Justin Verlander, Dusty Baker, Michael Brantley, Yuli Gurriel

The Houston Astros won the World Series in 2022. Several players who won it with the team may leave on an expiring deal or contract option.

Justin Verlander, Dusty Baker, Michael Brantley, Yuli Gurriel may leave Houston Astros in the next few years.

Justin Verlander re-signed with the Houston Astros last year on a two-year, $50 million deal. He is about to win his third Cy Young Award. Verler is likely to opt out of his $25 million player option for 2023 and become a free agent.

Michael Brantley signed a two-year contract with the Astros in 2019. He was injured in 2022 and missed the rest of the season. Bratley earned $16 million in the last season he played for the team.

Yuli Gurriel is a star player for the Houston Astros. He won a Gold Glove and a batting title in his two seasons in Houston.

Jason Castro, Martin Maldonado and Christian Vazquez are no longer Houston's catching options. Vezquez earned the most this year at $7 million.

Trey Mancini was acquired by the Houston Astros during the same trade deadline day as Vazquez. Mavini has a $10 million mutual option for first base.

Rafael Montero, Will Smith and Aledmys Diaz are Houston Astros' players. Montersio was a midseason acquisition in 2021. Smith has a $13 million club option for 2023. Diaz earned close to $5 million in 2022.
