The Houston Astros have a first-round bye in the American League Divisional Series. They could choose to keep all three center fielders and a deeper bench. Jake Meyers was recalled in last week of the season after a month in Triple-A Sugar Land.
Justin Verlander, Framber Valdez, Lance McCullers Jr. and Cristian Javier are the starting pitchers for the Astros. Last year McCuller pitched on limited rest to secure a path to the American League Championship Series. Javier has a 0.32 ERA over his last five starts.
Ryan Pressly, Ryne Stanek, Rafael Montero, Héctor Neris, Will Smith, Phil Maton and Hunter Brown are the obvious bullpen options for Houston. José Urquidy was bullpen tested at the end of the season but he lost to the Philadelphia Phillies. He's a better pitcher than Luis García. The front office could choose two of them as long relievers. PhilMaton has a good season and could be a left-handed pitcher. Hunter brown is a rookie. Seattle used four lefty hitters and three switch hitters for the Wild Card round.
