How Good Was Quality Road's Donn?

Quality Road won the G1-Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park last Saturday. The Beyer figure came up 121. Quality Road's speed figure for the Donn was the highest awarded to any race since Midnight Lute's 124 in the 2007 Forego. He won by a lot of lengths. There was no true Grade 1 horse in this year's Donn. The older horse division is Quality road's world. Rachel Alexandra, Zenyatta, and the Derby futures are the big names in it. Summer Bird and Friesen Fire are standouts on conventional dirt. Mine That Bird is not coming back to the track anytime soon.

Quality Road won the Donn at Gulfstream Park in 1:09.87. The Donn produced the fastest six furlong split of all the route races that day. Trainer Todd Pletcher has indicated that Quality Road will be pointed towards the G1-Met Mile at Belmont Park on Memorial Day. After that he will probably head to Saratoga for the summer.
