Illinois sees dramatic sports betting increase in September

Illinois sports betting handle increased 47% from August to September. Illinois is second in the country in year-to-date revenue. New Jersey and New York are ahead of Illinois. Illinois sportsbooks have accounted for over $82 million in state and local taxes in 2022. They have also produced over $187 million since the industry launched in March 2020. 26 states allow legal sports gambling and have produced a combined handle of nearly $161 billion through September, with Illinois in third place.
