James Maddison transfer news: Newcastle odds cut as third bid 'considered' but Leicester ace more likely to STAY

JAMES MADDISON'S odds of moving to Newcastle have been cut amid talk a third bid is being considered.

But Sky Bet reckon it's more likely he STAYS at Leicester and have the Foxes as 4/5 to retain their playmaker.

The 25-year-old was the subject of a failed £40million bid from Saudi-backed Newcastle earlier in this window.

That was followed up with a recent £50million bid which was also knocked back.

Eddie Howe's men have pinpointed Maddison as the perfect man to link midfield and attack to fire the Toon to a successful campaign.

Leicester knocked back the second offer as they hold a valuation closer to £60million.

It's believed Newcastle wouldn't want to go near that number but are still interested in taking him to St James' Park.

And despite the lack of European football this season, Newcastle believe Maddison would want to make the switch too.

That is reflected in the betting, with Sky Bet cutting their odds further to 6/4 to land Maddison in this window.

He has been in and out the England squad, though that's partly down to the sheer volume of outstanding attacking midfield talent at Gareth Southgate's disposal.

Despite Leicester having a quiet season last year, Maddison himself finished with 20 goal involvements - 12 goals and eight assists - in a productive personal season.

Spurs were reportedly interested in a move for him earlier in the window.

Antonio Conte has since splashed out on Richarlison to help bolster his attacking options, though Spurs remain in the betting at 8/1.

The other clubs quoted come in at much bigger odds, with Arsenal at 22/1 and Chelsea and Liverpool at 25/1.
