James McDonald says future in Sydney despite his international success this year

James McDonald is chasing a Sydney riding record. He has won six premierships and ridden 40 city winners this season. McDonald has had a year to remember in 2022, winning 15 Group 1 races and the Longines World's Best Jockey Award. He's ridden 74 winners including 74 at Group One level. George Moore holds the record for most Sydney jockeys premiership wins with 10 titles between 1956-57 and 1968-69. Ron Quinton has come closest to Moore's mark with eight premierations and Darren Beadman won seven titles.

McDonald won the Royal Ascot and the Hong Kong International Cup on Nature Strip. McDonald is the world's best jockey. He is comfortable in Sydney and has a full book of rides at Royal Randwick on Saturday. Godolphin champion Anamoe could be the next jockeying prospect to lure McDonald away from Sydney. Anami is early TAB fixed odds favourite for a number of autumn Group 1 races. He won five Group One races this year including the Cox Plate. His current odds are $4.50. The next race he rides is at the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Rennick on April 4th.
