January Will Either Make or Break This Devils Team in 2022-23

The New Jersey Devils are currently in second place in the Metropolitan. They have games in hand on the teams chasing them for a playoff berth in 2022-23. The Devils went 4-7-2 in December. Their last win was in November. They are in a playoffs spot. There is no sense in sugarcoating the results. It's unacceptable to me. I raised the bar for this group off of the great start in Nov. and it's not good enough. For the Devils to reach their ultimate ceiling, they'll need to learn to turn those losses into wins. This is a post for another day.

The New Jersey Devils are on the verge of the playoffs. January will either make or break their season. They started the month off with a loss to Carolina. Their points percentage in December slipped to .384. They are still at 95.4% to make the postseason. The team is playing in the East division. It was the COVID year. There are some caveats. 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons were pandemic-shortened. New York is in a good division, but it's not a stone cold lock for the playoff. If they play 7-4-2 in January, they will finish with 65 points and a .650 points Percentage on season, which is close to the 95% chance of making the tournament.
