Japan defeats Trueshan as odd couple fight out Ormonde finish

Japan won the Ormonde Stakes. Trueshan won at York in August 2019. Alan King's horse won a Long Distance Cup at Ascot last autumn. The trainer's attempts to run his Asot Gold Cup hope earlier this spring were thwarted by unsuitably quick ground at Nottingham and Ascott. Trushan is a 9-1 shot for the Gold with Paddy Power. He missed the beat a little out of the gates. Hollie Doyle had to ask him to jump. Japan holds three Group 1 entries. Ryan Moore would like to see him in the Coronation Cup. It was a big ask giving weight away.

Jason Hart won the 5f handicap aboard Jabbarockie. He won on the Eric Alston-trained sprinter at Musselburgh last month.

Tom Dascombe scored on the opening day of his local track's big meeting and followed up with a one-two in the two-year-old maiden. Mercurial, ridden by Hayley Turner fresh from ITV duties, pipped stablemate Russellinthebushes for the trainer.
