Japan, South Korea defeats end World Cup dreams for Asian teams

Japan and South Korea lost on penalties to Croatia and Brazil in the World Cup knockout stages. Japan won the group and went through to the last 16 despite playing against Germany and Spain in group stage. South Korean team beat Portugal. All three Asian teams have been eliminated in first knockout round of the tournament.  

Son Heung-min is proud of his team's performance at the World Cup. Paulo Bento is leaving his role as the Korean team’s coach. Thousands of fans in Seoul braved the cold and snow to watch their team lose to Brazil. The team reached the round of 16 after three group stage exits at previous World Cups. They were co-hosts of the 2002 World cup with Japan. The fans are proud that their side reached this stage. It was cold in the city centre, but the fans were proud. A student said the result is not important. He thinks the team will go to the quarter-finals or semi-final.
