Jose Mourinho Next Club Odds: Is a move to Saudi Arabia on the cards?

Jose Mourinho recently left Roma after a two-and-a-half year spell in charge of Italy's capital club.

The Portuguese coach won the Europa Conference League in his first season and then finished runner-up in last term's Europa League final but has now been sacked following a return of one win in six Serie A games which left Roma 9th in the table.

Where could we see the famous manager next?

Could Jose Mourinho be the latest name to be seduced by Saudi Arabia's riches?

The Saudi Pro League is currently home to the likes of Jorge Jesus, Slaven Bilic, and Steven Gerrard, however, a superstar of Mourinho's ilk would unquestionably be the league's top managerial acquisition to date.

Mourinho has already reportedly turned down an approach by Al-Shabab. Despite rejecting this offer, Mourinho's chances of moving to Saudi Arabia next have been slashed to just 1/4 with Sky Bet.

Napoli: 3/1

Sky Bet have priced up a return to Italy, with Napoli, at just 3/1.

The defending Serie A champions are currently on their second manager of the season after Walter Mazzarri replaced Luciano Spalletti's successor Rudi Garcia in November.

It's fair to say that the former Watford boss hasn't enjoyed the best of returns to the club, losing six of his opening 12 games. The fact that Mazzarri is only on a short-term contract coupled with Mourinho's sudden availability, means this could be one to monitor.

Barcelona: 5/1

Barcelona seem extremely short at 5/1, given Mourinho's colourful history with the club, his contrasting philosophy, and of course his former job as manager of Real Madrid.

Newcastle: 7/1

Eddie Howe remains a popular figure at Newcastle, a club he fired to 4th last season and finished runner-up in the Carabao Cup final. While Howe has had cash to splash, he's made a series of astute signings during his tenure and notably elevated the performances of underperforming players.

The Toon may have enjoyed stand-out 2023/24 victories over Man City, PSG, Arsenal, Man Utd (twice), and Chelsea, plus that 8-0 hammering of Sheff Utd, however, the club's progress has hit a brick wall in recent months.

Their wait for a long-awaited trophy goes on after they were knocked out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup, while they've dropped to 10th in the table, which leaves them 11 points off the top-four.

A ferocious dollop of red is splattered all over Newcastle's form book with an alarming eight defeats in 10 matches; worryingly, they've won just one Premier League away game since April, losing their last five in a row.

As a result, Howe's odds have been slashed to 6/1 in the Premier League Sack Race. With the Englishman beginning to feel the heat, Mourinho's sudden availability will no doubt add fuel to the rumour mill.

Chelsea: 7/1

What about a third spell at Chelsea?

During spell no.1, Mourinho won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Community Shield, before returning to lift another league title in 2014/15.

In the last 18 months, Chelsea have been managed by Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, and now incumbent Mauricio Pochettino who has yet to fully stamp his mark on the club, reflected in a current 9th-place standing.

Chelsea are one of the most trigger-happy clubs out there, yet Pochettino will surely be given time to implement his methods...won't he?

Mourinho has long been linked with managing his homeland, yet it's a move that's not yet come to fruition.

Fernando Santos held the position for eight years between 2014 and 2022, during which he famously won Euro 2016, while Roberto Martínez stepped into the dugout a year ago.

The Spaniard has since won all eight games in charge, overseeing Portugal's fastest ever qualification to a major tournament - Euro 2024 - with his side 8/1 to win the trophy this summer.

Something would have to go seriously wrong for Martinez to leave the job anytime soon, meaning Mourinho may have to play the waiting game for this one.

Crystal Palace: 16/1

Crystal Palace are surprisingly short at 8/1 in the betting.

Veteran manager Roy Hodgson finds himself as the favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave following a run of one win in 10 games.

Mourinho, who has managed three clubs across four spells in the Premier League, has previously spoken of his respect for the noisy Palace support while his family home remains in London.

Porto: 16/1

Perhaps a second spell at the club which catapulted Mourinho to stardom?

In the space of just two-and-a-half years, Mourinho won two league titles, the Champions League, UEFA Cup, and two domestic cups. In total, he won a whopping 91 of his 137 games in all competitions.

Porto have been managed by Sergio Conceicao since 2017, a partnership that has so far produced 10 trophies. It seems unlikely that the Dragons would abruptly make a change, considering they are challenging for domestic honours and face Arsenal in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Any MLS Side: 20/1

Could Mourinho be after a complete change of scenery over in America?

The MLS is currently gearing up for its 29th season which gets underway in just over a month with Mourinho out at 20/1 to jet over to the States next.

England National Team: 20/1

Gareth Southgate is currently busy prepping to have another stab at leading England to glory with The Three Lions the joint-favourites to win Euro 2024 this summer.

Southgate's contract expires at the end of 2024 - not straight after the Euros - and there is already speculation as to who could replace him in the dugout.

Mourinho previously rejected England's advances in 2007, but you get the feeling he would jump at the opportunity should it arise again in 2024.

Selected Others

Portugal clubs Sporting CP and Benfica can be backed at 20/1 and 25/1 respectively.

Mourinho's former treble-winners Inter Milan are also located at 25/1, West Ham are a touch shorter at 20/1, while Arsenal, Man Utd, and Tottenham can all be found at 50/1.
