Justin Verlander has one of the best seasons of his career. He is coming off Tommy John surgery. Verler won his 28th game and lowered his ERA to 1.75. The Astros are 105-56 heading into Wednesday's regular-season finale. If he wins the Cy Young Award, it will be his third.

Verlander is the second pitcher to lead the Majors in ERA in his age-39 season or older since earned runs became an official stat in 1913. He is also the 12th pitcher (16th occurrence overall) to win an AL or NL ERA title in their age 36 season. Verlander has 79 career double-digit strikeout games, which ties Bob Gibson for ninth-most all-time since 1901.
