The Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City Royals meet Monday in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field. Chicago played the Yankees over the weekend. After losing two of the first three games in that set, on Sunday the Sox lost by four runs. As for the Royals, they’re coming off a series versus the Rockies. Kansas City split the first pair in that set, then in the Sunday rubber match the Royals eked out a one-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Chicago took a couple of rough losses 15-7 and 10-4 in the first two games versus the Yankees, but then won 3-2 on Saturday. In the Sunday finale, the Sox gave up just two hits but still lost 5-1. Starter Michael Kopech lasted 6.0 frames with three earned on one hit and four walks.

Johnny Cueto will take the mound for the White Sox on Tuesday in his season debut. Cueto posted 22 games (21 starts) last year with a 7-7 record and a 4.08 ERA.

Over on the Royals’ side, they managed a wild 14-10 Friday victory over the Rockies but then fell 10-4 on Saturday. In the Sunday game, KC logged three runs in the seventh (then gave up seven in the bottom of the frame) in a wild 8-7 victory.  Daniel Lynch went 5.1 clean innings in the start with three hits and four walks.

As the starting pitcher on Monday, the Royals will go with Brad Keller. In his six starts this year Keller is 1-3 with a 2.70 ERA. Across 36.2 innings total he’s put up 27 hits, 11 earned runs, nine walks and 22 Ks.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Royals. Keller is coming off a rough outing versus Texas on May 10. In that start he took the loss with 5.2 innings, five earned, nine hits and a walk. That said, Keller was solid in his prior two starts with 13.1 combined innings, seven hits, three walks and one earned run. If Keller can post a quality start in this one I think Kansas City will have a good shot at bagging a victory.
