The Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins meet Monday in MLB action from Target Field. The Royals are fresh off a weekend series versus the Dodgers. After a split in the first two games, in the Sunday rubber match Kansas City took a blowout victory. As for Minnesota, they played the Orioles over the weekend. The Twins won the first pair in that series, then on Sunday Minnesota took a close loss. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Kansas City Royals

The Royals took a rough 9-3 loss to the Dodgers Friday but then bounced back for a 6-4 Saturday win. In the rubber match Sunday, KC scored three times in the fourth and fifth innings in a 9-1 blowout win. Brady Singer went 7.0 innings in the start with one earned on four hits and three walks.

For the starter job on Monday the Royals are going with Austin Cox. In his seven games (one start) this year Cox is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 16.0 innings.

Minnesota Twins

Over on the Twins’ side, they took out Baltimore 8-1 Friday and 1-0 in the Saturday matchup. In the finale Sunday Minnesota gave up just five hits in a tough 2-1 loss. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray managed 6.0 innings with two hits, three walks and seven Ks.

In the starting pitcher slot Monday the Twins will go with Joe Ryan. In his 16 starts this year Ryan is 8-5 with a 3.44 ERA and 105 Ks in 96.2 innings. Ryan is 23-14 with a 3.56 ERA in 48 career starts.

The Royals are 24-61 in their last 85 overall and 15-36 in their last 51 in game one of a series. KC is 1-5 in their last six Monday games.

Meanwhile, the Twins are 1-4 in their last five Monday games and 1-4 in their last five at home after a road trip of a week or more. The over is 4-1 in Minnesota’s last five at home.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll take a stab on the Royals. Probably not touching it, though. Both starters need a good showing in this one. Cox gave up four earned in 3.2 innings to the Guardians in his last start June 28. As for Ryan, he’s got a combined 10.0 innings and 12 earned in two starts sandwiched around his complete game shutout versus Boston. On Sunday Kansas City had a great offensive outing with 15 team hits. The Royals pitching staff was great too, as Singer worked deep into the game. I like KC to keep it going, but I probably won’t mess with this one.
