Kentucky Derby second Epicenter powers to 'special' Travers Stakes win
Epicenter won the Travers Stakes in front of 49,672 people. He was the Kentucky Derby runner-up. The Steve Asmussen-trained colt is now 5-1 for the Breeders' Cup Classic at the end of the season.
It was the first win in the race for the Winchell Thoroughbreds. The family is best known for starting one of America's largest donut franchises. Broome was beaten by Gufo in Grade 1 Sword Dancer Stakes. Malathaat, Jack Christopher, Cody's Wish and Malekaat were other winners. A betting turnover of $55,559,315 was a new record for Saratoga. It was up more than $3m from pre-Covid levels.
