Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike is just what horse racing needed

Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby at odds of 99-1 on Saturday. He was trained by Mark Reed. The horse will go to Lexington for a few days before heading to Baltimore for the Preakness. The crowd of 147,294 attended the first Derby without COVID restrictions since 2019. Wagering for day’s program totaled a record $273.8 million. It was a 17% increase over 2021 and a 9% jump from the 2019 record of $250.9 million, which was set in 2019, too. Last year's Derby was marred by drug problems.
