Lions vs Seahawks: Odds, predictions, props and best bets

Coming off a shocking blowout home loss to the Rams, the Seattle Seahawks (0-1) will now travel to Detroit to take on the Lions (1-0), coming off a thrilling road win of their own. The Lions will have a few days of rest, and they are the early favorites in this one.

We’ve scoured Michigan’s best sportsbooks to bring you the best odds on this game.

The Lions and Seahawks virtually had opposite performances in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season. The Lions won on the season’s opening night on the road against the defending Super Bowl champs as a multiple possession underdog (even after Chiefs TE Travis Kelce was ruled out). The Seahawks were 4.5 point favorites on most NFL sportsbooks at home against the Rams without their star wide receiver, but fell completely flat in losing 30-13. Seattle now has to travel across the country to face a confident Lions team on 10 days rest.

For the third season in a row, the Lions and Seahawks will meet in the regular season. Dating back to 2015, the Seahawks have won five straight meetings, including four straight against the spread. The Lions have allowed a combined 99 points to Seattle in the past two meetings. While Detroit held Kansas City below their implied team total, some have put an “asterisk” on the performance due to the lack of Travis Kelce and Chiefs wide receivers dropping multiple passes. Still, the Lions defense gets credit for making the plays when they mattered and taking down the reigning champions and league MVP.

The Seahawks second half in their Week 1 home loss to the Rams wasn’t bad; it was disastrous. After leading 13-6 at half, Seattle was outscored 24-0 in the second half. They managed just one first down and 12 total yards of offense. The defense was not much better: the Rams punted just once and were 11-17 on 3rd down. All told, it was the worst home loss the Seahawks endured in six years. To add injury to insult, both Seattle offensive tackles left the game due to injury and their statuses for Sunday are uncertain at the time of this writing. The immediate prognosis for Seattle is not very positive, but this is the NFL, and the unexpected comes to be expected.

The Lions defense looked good against the Chiefs, especially young stars Brian Branch and Aidan Hutchinson. But is one game enough of a sample size to really buy in? Last season, both Detroit and Seattle had bottom 10 defenses in points per game allowed. Both teams have electrifying offensive weapons this season, even if it wasn’t on full display in Week 1. We believe the offenses will have the upper hand this week in the dome of Ford Field.

Yes, the Seahawks offense struggled mightily in Week 1, but again, don’t overreact to a one week sample size. Seattle had a top-10 offense in 2022 and grabbed two offensive skill position players in the first two rounds of the most recent NFL Draft. We believe that scoring three touchdowns is not only possible, but likely.

Game prediction: Lions 31, Seahawks 27
