Week 1 brought bitter disappointment for Pete Carroll and the Seahawks, who dropped their season opener in miserable fashion. The 30-13 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in front of their own fans at Lumen Field was Seattle’s worst home defeat for six years.

In stark contrast, the Lions boosted their rising reputation even more by beating defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs 21-20 at Arrowhead Stadium last Thursday night in the NFL season opener despite not even playing their best game.

With that win, Detroit has now won nine of its last 11 games dating back to last season and has earned a status as arguably one of the favorites to win the NFC North in 2023.

The Lions meet the Seahawks at Ford Field in Detroit’s 2023 home opener on Sunday with revenge likely on their mind after they not only lost 48-45 to Seattle last season but were knocked out of playoff contention in 2022 by Seattle’s Week 18 win over the Rams.

Going into the teams’ Week 2 contest, Detroit is the favorite. Kickoff is at 10 a.m. PDT and FOX has the broadcast.

The Lions head home to what will surely be a raucous atmosphere with a huge underdog win under their belt. Meanwhile, the Seahawks’ defense let up over 300 passing yards from Matthew Stafford against the Rams, and Jared Goff should enjoy plenty of freedom in the passing game here.

Detroit has gone .702 ATS during the past two seasons, the best such record in the NFL, and they won and covered the spread with ease as underdogs in Kansas City last week. The Lions were 3-1 as home favorites in 2022 and based on the limited evidence from both teams so far, that doesn’t seem too likely to change here.

There’s no sugar-coating the fact that Seattle struggled desperately in offense in Week 1. But, while football fans love to overreact, the sample size so far is tiny.

Let’s not forget that the Seahawks boasted a top-10 attack in 2022 and also recruited in that department by bringing in two offensive skill position players in the first two rounds of the Draft. QB Geno Smith will have to perform significantly better than his 112 yards on 16 completions against the Rams, but Seattle has the capability to have a better scoring day here.
