Munoz Can Fly High

Take note of the detail in the course notes: The Greenbrier Resort sits at over 550 meters above sea level and as such altitude is something of a factor.

True, it is not as significant as when the DP World Tour heads high into the Alps or when the Barracuda Championship is held in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

But caddies will tell you that 500 meters equates to about 5% of extra distance for every shot.

Some golfers can cope with that tweak and others get flummoxed by it.

Colombia’s Sebastian Munoz has played at altitude all his life - in fact, he broke through on the second tier by winning at home in sky-high Bogota, he added two top three finishes at altitude in Mexico, and he’s finished third and seventh here at Greenbrier.

On that first occasion, he was leading after 18, 36 and 54 holes.

Back him each-way at +1800 with Caesars Sportsbook paying out five places.

Smith on a Roll

As a backup to Munoz, take the favorite to win.

Smith was superb in his victory at the Centurion Club and his troubles on the links should be no great surprise - his win last year was something of a bolt from the blue in such conditions.

This week will be more to his liking and he hinted as much in the effort mentioned above - moreover, he was a good golfer then and is a world-class one now.

He even said ahead of the Open that he’s a better golfer now than last year and added: “It all came together in London.”

Niemann Can Ride the Memories

Back in 2019, Joaquin Niemann took advantage of hailing from the highest country in the world (Chile) to land a first PGA Tour win at The Greenbrier.

It was an impressive one too with rounds of 65-62-68-64.

He’s a high-quality player who has not quite fired this year - what he needs is something to fire his best golf and a return to a course with good memories is the ideal place for that to happen.

A win might be a stretch, but he can land a top 10.
