Madison Keys Australian Open 2023 Odds

At the time of writing, Madison Keys is the American number 3, despite being ranked number 10 in the world. Yes – that really is how strong American tennis is for the women’s game at the moment! Adding to that, Madison Keys is 27 years of age, so she has plenty of experience in competing at the top of the game. And given her recent form, the bookies have given the following odds for Keys to win the Australian Open 2023:

These odds are fairly high in our opinion, and we actually believe that Madison Keys should be down as one of the favourites. After all, she made the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2022. She is also in some of the best forms of any of the top players at the moment, hence the top 10 rankings achieved just this week.

Ironically, these odds place Keys as the 10th favourite to win the tournament based on the odds.

Upcoming match vs Blinkova – Madison Keys Australian Open 2023

Madison Keys has been drawn against Anna Blinkova of Russia in the first round. These two have only played once previously, yet this was back in 2019 in Paris. Of course, that means that the meeting was on clay, which is totally different from the hard court. Yet Keys still won that meeting, which bodes well. And since Keys is ranked 10 while Blinkova is ranked 72, you’d expect Keys to beat her quite comfortably in this opening round.

Madison Keys Recent Form Ahead of this Grand Slam

For those who don’t know much about Madison Keys, she is a huge hitter of the ball. Being so aggressive, however, does have its pros and cons. On her day, she can take down anyone on the tour. But if she isn’t firing on all cylinders, it can be tough for Keys to build a rhythm and keep things consistent.

With that said, she’s certainly been firing for the last five matches, as you can see from the list of matches here:

  • Keys vs Bronzetti – won – 6-3, 6-2
  • Keys vs Linette – won – 6-4, 6-2
  • Keys vs Swan – won – 2-6, 6-3, 6-4
  • Keys vs Bouzkova – won – 6-4, 6-3
  • Keys vs Niemeier – won – 6-2, 6-3

Note that all of these games were played at the 2023 United Cup. This was the first edition of the international event involving both males and females. And it’s fair to say that Madison Keys was pivotal in helping the USA to win this event. Clearly, she dismantled several skilled players while dropping just one set along the way.

Keys Injury update: No Injury At The Moment

Since people tend to be curious about injuries relating to big players before Grand Slams, we figured we’d cover this for Madison Keys. And as you can see, there are no injuries to report for the American ahead of Melbourne. Given that the tournament is starting in just a few days, we expect that things will stay this way too. Adding to that, Keys is not competing in any events this week.

Therefore, it is likely that she is engaged in a light practice schedule to simply stay sharp prior to the 2023 Australian Open. These lighter schedules tend to help players stay in tune while reducing the chances of picking up any injuries.

Madison Keys Australian Open Record

Amazingly, Madison Keys made her debut at the Australian Open more than 10 years ago. She gained entry into the main draw for the first time back in 2012 while she was still just a teenager. However, the tournament was short-lived for Keys, as she lost in the opening round. Then again, this has been the story for many players who have ultimately gone on to become some of the best in the business.

And just three years later in 2015, Keys made the semi-finals of the Australian Open. At that time, this was the best Grand Slam performance that she had ever produced. This was only bested by her performance at the 2017 US Open. However, Keys once again turned on the magic last year to make the semi-finals in 2022 before losing to Ash Barty. As we are sure you know, Ash Barty ultimately went on to win the tournament.

Other than these two semi-final appearances, Madison Keys has made one quarter-final in 2018. But her best apart from these appearances has been the 4th round, achieved in both 2016 and 2019. Because of this consistency, the Australian Open is actually her best Grand Slam in terms of winning percentage – 74%.

Madison Keys Australian Open 2023 Prediction – 4th round or quarters

Thanks to her ranking, Madison Keys is seeded 10 for the Australian Open. This is an ideal position for her to be in concerning the draw. And of course, she has been given a simpler path to go deep in the draw compared to other players. In our opinion, especially given her recent form, it would be realistic for Keys to make the 4th round or quarters. We say this despite the fact that she made the semi-finals last year.

So she clearly has a suitable game to taste success on the quicker hard courts of Melbourne. Yet since Keys is very much a ‘confidence player’, she needs to go out there and kill it in the opening rounds to gain momentum. And looking ahead to some of the later rounds, Keys is set to play Sakkari in the 4th round followed by Jessica Pegula in the quarters. As a refresher, Pegula is the number 3 seed and she is in fantastic form.

Therefore, it would take something pretty special for Keys to beat both Sakkari and Pegula back to back. That’s why we’ve given the prediction shown.
