Maggie Miles and More Best Bets for Nov. 17-23

Rachael Yamagata has sold more than 400,000 albums over her 25-year career. She's been compared to Fiona Apple, Norah Jones, and Bonnie Raitt. Autofiction is the latest album from English rock band the London Suede. The band will play at Fillmore Silver Spring on Nov. 18 with Welsh rock group Manic Street Preachers. They will be playing together even though the World Cup is coming up. They are playing each other on November 29. Manics are a football fan. London and Manich are friends. Their last tour was in 1994. It's unlikely they will see each others' songs. There is no chance of seeing them play eachother's songs during the football game.

Maggie Miles plays at Pie Shop on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Am I Drowning or Am Just Learning How to Swim is the sophomore album from Nashville-based Maggie Miles. It's a collection of songs about guilt, faith and overcoming obstacles.

Ani DiFranco is having a renaissance. She's been a folk artist for 25 years. Her new albums show her maturing and mellowing. You Resemble Me is a new French drama from former journalist Dina Amer. It's about two sisters, Hasna and Miriam, who have a happy childhood in Paris. Their life is hard because their mother is not much of a provider and they are homeless. Hasnas is Muslim and has a profound identity crisis as an adult.
