City can cruise into last eight

Holders Manchester City will be expected to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League with flying colours when they host Copenhagen in the second leg of their round-of-16 tie.

A goal and two assists from the inspirational Kevin De Bruyne helped City to a 3-1 win in the first leg in Denmark, and in their current form wrapping up the tie looks a formality for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Copenhagen have never beaten City and their bid to change that will have been further affected when they were beaten 2-0 by Midtjylland, who overtook the Lions to go top of the Superliga.

Alongside La Liga leaders Real Madrid, City are the favourites to lift the trophy in May and will be expected to comfortably see off the Danish champions at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

City’s last defeat in any competition came at Aston Villa in the Premier League back in December, and they have won 17 of their 19 games since.

After a stuttering end to February in the league where City scored just three goals across three league games, the reigning champions look to be back at their free-scoring best.

Another masterclass from De Bruyne and Erling Haaland saw Guardiola’s men put six past Luton in the FA Cup, before they came from behind to dispatch Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday.

Copenhagen have lost three of their last six in all competitions and last grabbed a goal at this stadium in the Europa League in 2009 – a consolation effort in a 2-1 defeat.

The Danes failed to win any of their previous three away games in the Champions League this season and may struggle against a City side who look good value in the three-goal handicap market.

Manchester City vs Copenhagen tip 1: Manchester City -3 Handicap @ 23/10 with Paddy Power

Fantastic Foden to shine again

In a team filled with superstars, England’s Phil Foden has stood out in what has been his best individual season for his hometown club.

Foden has already matched last season’s league goals tally of 11 with 11 games still to play, and he has also bettered his assist record from the previous campaign, registering seven to date.

The 23-year-old is currently on a two-game scoring streak, bagging three across this run, and he should feel confident of extending that run on Wednesday night.

City forwards can have a field day

Not only can Foden get on the scoresheet but he is likely to draw a few late tackles from the Copenhagen defence as City’s dominant possession-based football begins to frustrate them.

No City player has been fouled more than Foden in all competitions, with the tricky forward drawing late tackles on 53 occasions.

Norway striker Haaland is also expected to be a handful and he should be expected to try his luck on a number of occasions. Haaland has registered 62 shots on target across all competitions, 49.2 per cent of them on target, and Copenhagen keeper Kamil Grabara may have a busy night ahead of him.

Our bet builder concludes in the cards market, with Lions midfielder Rasmus Falk a good-looking option to pick up a yellow on the night.

The 32-year-old has collected five bookings in all competitions and another is more than plausible given City’s expected dominance.

Manchester City vs Copenhagen tip 3: Bet builder: Phil Foden to be fouled 2 or more times, Erling Haaland to have 2 or more shots on target and Rasmus Falk to be booked @ 8/1 with Paddy Power
