Manchester United ‘fail with Goncalo Ramos swap deal’ as Erik ten Hag eyes transfer

Manchester United have failed to sign Goncalo Ramos in a swap deal that would have seen Alex Telles move to Benfica, reports say. Erik ten Hag is determined to sign a new striker in this summer’s transfer window. Anthony Martial has long been inconsistent, while Mason Greenwood’s long-term future remains up in the air.

Manchester United know they require a new forward if they’re to end their wait for a first Premier League title since 2013.

And CaughtOffside say they’ve failed with a swap deal for Benfica hotshot Ramos.

The Portugal international dazzled in his homeland last term, scoring 27 goals from 47 appearances across all competitions.

And he also impressed for his country, too, scoring a hat-trick against Switzerland at the Qatar World Cup.

Telles has been deemed surplus to requirements by United, having previously joined the club back in 2020.

Harry Maguire could join him out the door, too, with the England international expected to be stripped of the captaincy.

Midfielders Scott McTominay and Fred are facing uncertain futures, while Donny van de Beek has been linked with a move away.

And even Martial may depart, even though he’s United’s only senior striker at present.

Speaking recently, meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes hailed Ramos and backed him to shine in the event of any Premier League transfer.

"I think Goncalo [Ramos] has all the conditions to play in the Premier League," he said last month.

"He plays with a lot of intensity, he presses very well and is really good inside the penalty area.

“He is strong. Obviously, he is still very young and will improve a lot."

Fernandes added: "If he continues to work as he has worked so far, I believe he has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world.

“He is already close to that level, but he still needs to go to a more competitive league and prove himself.

“He will go there, something I believe he has all the capabilities to do."
