Alex Earns a Wildcard
Alexandra Eala, age 17, is set to make her Madrid Open debut on Tuesday. The youngster, who is ranked #267, earned a wildcard following her heroics at the US Open Junior last year. She won the major, beating Lucie Havlickova in the final.
On the senior side of things, Eala has three ITF finals, while her performance on the WTA Tour is still bleak. So far in 2023, the teenager has played in just three top-tier tournaments – Australian Open, Miami Open, and Hua Hin.
In the first two cases, she lost her opening match, while in Hua Hin, Eala cleared the qualifiers before losing to Tatjana in the opener.
Alex spent the last couple of weeks in ITF events in Switzerland but could not quite bag a win. Her season record is now 4-7.
