Mark Williams believes lifestyle changes required to improve form following Welsh Open exit to Jak Jones

Mark Williams believes he needs to make some lifestyle changes as he crashed out of the Welsh Open to compatriot Jak Jones in the second round following a late finish in Llandudno.

The three-time world champion was stunned 4-3 after a disjointed performance, and his elimination at such an early stage means he is likely to miss out on next week’s Players Championship.

Reflecting on another disappointing defeat, Williams told Eurosport: “I struggled a bit. Night matches... I don't know why, but I just get really tired quick.

“It’s something I’ve got to look at really and try and get a bit more exercise. Eating the right foods and everything. Most matches I seem to be really tired.

“I practised more in the last week for this tournament than I have in 12 months. That won't be happening again, I think I'm going to get the golf clubs out. And, like I said, try and get some exercise in because I really am feeling the night matches. I’ve got to try and see if I can get a bit fitter.”

“As far as I'm concerned I'm out,” he continued.

“I don't think I can get in now. I’ve got a big break because, really, what’s left? A couple of tournaments and then the next one may not start until July or August. So, nothing really to do other than play golf.”

Speaking in the Eurosport studio, Neal Foulds admitted that Williams was unlikely to feature in next week’s tournament.

“At the moment, he needs other results to go his way. He is currently 15th, ‘The Hawk’ [Barry Hawkins] can go past him if he wins a couple of matches and then someone below him is probably going to get deep, so odds are slightly against him to playing next week in that event.

“That’s a tough one because it will be another big hitter out. You know, it's the tournament… it’s not what it was in previous years.

“This tournament next week, there’s hardly anyone that you thought would be in it is likely to be in it now.”
