Marshall & ‘Mac’ looking to upset Merlin in Sires Stakes heat

North Island harness racing heads to Cambridge tomorrow night (Sep 29). There will be 10 races on the card. Merlin, Art Major, Son Of Mac and a non-tote two-year-old trot are the main events. Merlin has won all of his starts this year. Son of Mac is the first foal from an American Ideal mare, Lusty Mac. Kyle Marshall bought him for $60,000. He saw her at the Cambridge Raceway. She won the Magness Benrow Northern Mares classic twice in a row. The mares was educated at Cambridge. It was a great maret.

Son Of Mac finished second in a workout behind unbeaten horse Merlin at Pukekohe. Marshall and Mac are looking to upset Merlin in Sires Stakes heat tomorrow night. Merlin has never been beaten in six race day starts. Mac is hoping to take advantage of barrier three. Ricki Herbert is a member of the stable. He has helped Mac with the ownership side of things and communications. He also helps with training. The stable is owned by a group of good people. They are keen to win the Sire's Stake series. It is also a good bunch of owners. All White player and coach Rickie Herbert owns the horses. His company has given Mac the backing he needs to be competitive.
