Marthin Hamlet vs. Impa Kasanganay Analysis and Prediction

The PFL playoffs kick off this week on the MMA schedule from San Antonio with the featherweight and light heavyweight semifinals. Let’s take a look at a light heavyweight matchup between Marthin Hamlet and Impa Kasanganay.

MMA picks this weekend.

Marthin Hamlet vs. Impa Kasanganay

Location of the fight: Boeing Center at Tech Port, San Antonio, TX.

Date and Time: Friday, August 04. 9:00 PM ET

How to Watch: ESPN+

Hamlet is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Sam Kei in June.

Kasanganay also fought in June, earning an impressive submission victory over Tim Caron in the second round.

Hamlet is a 31-year-old martial artist from Norway. With a professional MMA record of 12-4 with three TKO/KOs and four submissions under his belt. This is his third season with the PFL and his first time earning two wins going into the playoffs.

He is a great grappler with the ability to finish the fight in many ways–mostly from on top of his opponent, either from submission or ground-and-pound. He has a height of 6’1” along with a 75” reach.

Kasanganay is a 29-year-old martial artist that fights out of the highly-respected Kill Cliff FC team. He has a professional record of 13-3 with 2 TKO/KO wins and four submissions. He currently has a 4-fight winning streak, including a first-round TKO win in the PFL Challenger Series in March–earning him a contract.

“Tshilobo” is slightly undersized for a light heavyweight, standing at 5’11” but having the same 75” reach as his opponent this weekend. Kasanganay is a great athlete, being a former college football player, and also, he is one of the smartest fighters you’ll see–having three college degrees under his belt.

No injuries have been reported to the PFL.

If you were to say Kasanganay would be a -300 betting favorite over Hamlet at the beginning of this year. Nobody would know who you were even talking about. This is the breakout season for Impa Kasanganay.

Since it’s early on in fight week, the prop bets won’t start being released until later this week. So keep an eye out for the rest of the Hamlet vs Kasanganay betting lines.

Both of these fighters have similar styles to each other. They both like to use wrestling as their main pace-setter in fights. Taking opponents down, getting to a dominant decision, and then landing heavy shots. Those shots either lead to a TKO or for the opponent to give themselves up for a submission to be locked up.

The edge is given to Kasanganay in the odds because of his athletic ability and his speed advantage. MMA isn’t all about who the better athlete is, but Kasanganay has proven he also has skills that continue to improve every time he steps foot into the cage.

After looking at the available MMA odds for this bout and breaking down both styles of these fighters, let’s get to the official Hamlet vs Kasanganay betting prediction.

Kasanganay will get the nod for this betting pick. What he’s doing this year seems too special to be against right now. This is already his 4th fight of the year, but he hasn’t taken much damage, so you have to assume he will be coming in decently healthy.

He also doesn’t have to cut too much weight, which allows him to be in great shape on fight night. Hamlet is experienced and very skilled in his own right, but the momentum behind Kasanganay and his skillset is too much to bet against.

Don’t be surprised if he gets a TKO finish on Friday night as well.

  • That might be the bet to make instead of a -300 moneyline bet with not much value.
