Medina Spirit won the 147th Kentucky Derby. It was the seventh KentuckyDerby for trainer Bob Baffert. The jockey who rode him, John Velazquez, was in his late 50s. Baddert's horse was found with a banned substance. The legislation would bring in the United States Anti-Doping Agency to monitor horse racing. He is the most questioned trainer in horse race.

A group from the University of Louisville filed a complaint with the Ky. Horse Racing Commission. It was dismissed. Medinah Spirit covered the mile and a quarter in 2 minutes 1.02 seconds and paid $26.20 on a $2 bet to win.
