Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant suspended (again) for appearing to flash a gun in social media video

The Memphis Grizzlies have suspended star guard Ja Morant after he appeared to be flashing a gun for a second time in three months in a social media post.

“We are aware of the social media video involving Ja Morant,” the team said in a statement. “He is suspended from all team activities pending league review. We have no further comment at this time.”

NBA spokesman Mike Bass told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski: “We are aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and are in the process of gathering more information.”

On March 4, Morant was shown in a video for the first time flashing a gun in a nightclub in Glendale, Colo., and at that point he was suspended eight games. That cost him a chance to make an All-NBA team -- players need a minimum of 67 games to be eligible -- and in turn cost him $39 million on his upcoming contract.

“Obviously, you know, I made mistakes in the past that caused a lot of negative attention, not only to me, but my family as well, my team, the organization, and I’m completely sorry for that,” Morant told reporters then “So, you know, my job now is, like I said, being more responsible, smarter, and don’t cause any (more off-court controversy) anymore.”

On March 13, Morant entered a counseling program in Florida undergoing mental health and life counseling. He said he was trying to “be a better me, learning how to be there for myself and realigning myself with my personal life.”

“Just being more responsible, smarter, that’s pretty much it for me,” he added.

On March 15, he met with Commissioner Adam Silver.

And then on Sunday, Morant was suspended again for appearing to flash a gun while listening to music and singing along with friends in a car.

Morant averaged 26.2 points, 8.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds this season for the Grizzlies, who lost to the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.
