Mets’ Starling Marte’s status for spring training, Opening Day is in question

Back in November, New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury that he sustained in the second half of the 2022 season.

According to SNY’s Andy Martino, his status for spring training has yet to be determined, but that it “should be determined early next month.”

Earlier this month, it was announced that Marte would not be participating in the World Baseball Classic, which is from March 8 to March 21. If Marte ends up missing a lot of spring training rehabbing, then he may not be considered ready for Opening Day.

Marte dealt with another injury in 2022 that had him miss some time. In September, he suffered a broken middle finger on his right hand and landed on the injured list after getting hit by a pitch from Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller. He also dealt with a quad injury for much of the season.
