Mike's Mets Player Review Series: Starling Marte
The New York Mets' season is over. This series looks at the players from A to W. It will look at their season statistics, stories and what role they will have next season. Today we look back at outfielder Starling Marte.
Regular Season: 118 games, 466 at bats, .292 Batting Average, 136 hits, 24 doubles, 5 triples, 16 home runs, 63 RBIs, 76 runs scored, 18 stolen bases, 26 walks, and .814 OPS.
Starling Marte played for the Mets in the first half of the season. He was outstanding in that period and earned a trip to the All-Star Game. Marti suffered a fractured finger in September and missed the rest of season and the Wild Card Series. The Mets lost the series to San Diego in three games. He played well in spring training and was a leader in their clubhouse. His value was increased by the fact that the team's offense went into a slump when he was out of action.
Starling Marte is signed through 2025 and will earn $20.75 million in 2023.
Starling Marte will be back with the Mets in 2023. He will play in right field if Nimmo stays and in center field in case he leaves. The team is open to moving Marto back to center if necessary. Marta is 34 and has nagging core muscle injuries.
