Mets vs. Cubs prediction: MLB pick for Carlos Carrasco, Jameson Taillon

Not much was expected of the Cubs this season, but Chicago is making a late-season playoff surge.

The Mets are on the other end of the spectrum. A preseason World Series contender, they are limping to the finish line after another disappointing year.

The teams meet Tuesday with two pitchers who have been far from dominant.

Mets vs. Cubs prediction

(7 p.m. ET., SNY)

Jameson Taillon (6-6, 5.36 ERA) takes the ball for Chicago, while the Mets counter with Carlos Carrasco (3-6, 6.60 ERA).

Taillon’s overall numbers aren’t impressive, but he’s been at the top of his game recently.

The righty has allowed just seven runs over 30 1/3 innings spanning his last five starts, with the Cubs going 5-0 in those games.

Giving up home runs has been an issue for Taillon this season, but he’s allowed only two in those last five starts with a respectable 18-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Carrasco has been batting practice of late, allowing a mind-boggling 32 hits and 23 runs in his last four starts (15 1/3 innings).

Betting on Baseball?

He hopes to regain the form he showed earlier this season when he gave up two or fewer runs in seven of 12 starts.

This is a case of two pitchers heading in the opposite direction late in the season. Carrasco has won his last two starts against Chicago, but he’s pure fade material right now.

I’ll back the Cubs to get the win on the road.
