Thursday, February 2nd, the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks play the first of four scheduled matches this season. Miami will host on March 3rd and 22nd while the Knicks will host the final meeting on March 29th.

Both teams last played on Tuesday with the Heat defeating the Cavaliers 100-97 while the Knicks lost 123-129to the Lakers.

Prior to the match versus the Cavaliers, I noted the Heat might be the more grizzled squad, especially considering the Cavs’ record when facing fully healthy lineups instead of lineups with only two of three regular starters.

It’s not to suggest the Cavs aren’t one of the better teams, rather, a team like the Heat is more experienced and when Jimmy Butler is playing alongside Bam Adebayo they become difficult to stop.

That experience won them the game on Tuesday as they held Cleveland to 18 fourth-quarter points and made the right plays on both ends of the hardwood in clutch time to collect the win and inch closer to fifth place.

Stats

Offensively, the Heat scores 108.5 points per game ranking 30th while shooting 45.3% from the field and 33.6% from the perimeter ranking 28th and 27th respectively.

Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 108.2 points per game ranking second overall. Miami opponents shoot 47.5% from the field and 36.6% from the perimeter ranking 20th and 23rd respectively.

Duncan Robinson (finger), Nikola Jovic (back), and Omer Yurtseven (ankle surgery) are out indefinitely.

New York Knicks

Much like the Celtics and Grizzlies are learning how valuable Marcus Smart and Steven Adams are the Knicks are similarly learning how difficult it is to win without the services of their big man Mitchell Robinson.

In the six games Robinson has been sidelined while he recuperates from a fractured thumb the team has gone 2-4.

As can be seen, the Knicks are one of the best defensive teams in the association they limit opponents to 112.7 points which is 12th ranked while possessing the third-best opponent field goal percentage of 45.4% and ranks fifth for opponent perimeter percentage of 34.9%.

So far, offensively, the Knicks score 114.4 points per game ranking 15th while shooting 45.8% from the field and 34.2% from the perimeter ranking 25th in both efficiency categories.
