Milwaukee Brewers: Corbin Burnes Trade Probability Listed At 30%

A Milwaukee Brewers and Corbin Burnes break up is inevitable.  The former Cy Young award winner is entering his final year of team control and he recently revealed that the front office informed him that he has played his way outside of the Brewers price range.  Knowing this information the biggest question now is when will the two sides part ways?

If Milwaukee wants to get something in return for Corbin Burnes their best bet would be to trade him this off-season.  Should Matt Arnold and company not trade him this winter they could always look to trade him mid-season, but that would create an increased risk for players responding in a negative way.  This previously happened during the Josh Hader trade and it seems unlikely that Milwaukee would make that mistake again.

All of this information makes it seem like a Corbin Burnes trade will happen this off-season.  There is also the chance that Milwaukee holds onto him and receives nothing in return.  According to one MLB Insider that may be the direction that the Brewers are leaning.

Milwaukee Brewers Corbin Burnes trade probability listed at 30%.

Jon Heyman listed the probability of a Corbin Burnes trade at 30%.  This means that he believes there is a low probability of Corbin Burnes being traded this winter.  His primary reason revolves around the fact that the Brewers could win the division again in 2024 and trading Corbin Burnes severely diminishes those chances.

The Brewers are telling teams they’ll listen on everyone, and true ace Burnes is worth a bundle.  However, they can win their division again, and a trade of Burnes seriously diminishes their chances.  Remarkably, the Brewers have consistently avoided selling despite existing in MLB’s No. 30 market.  Maybe a deadline play?  Odds to be traded: 30 percent.

This assessment of the current state of the Milwaukee Brewers and Corbin Burnes is accurate. Despite losing manager Craig Counsell, trading Mark Canha, and non-tendering Brandon Woodruff the Brewers currently have a nice blend of veteran and young talent.  This should keep them within contention of the division title.

In order to make a push at a second consecutive division title they would need Corbin Burnes taking the ball every fifth day.  This means that the Brewers would hold on to him, let him walk at the end of the 2024 season, and aside from draft pick compensation from extending Burnes a qualifying offer they would receive nothing else in return.

It will be interesting to see if Corbin Burnes is traded this off-season or not, but according to Jon Heyman the probability of this occurring is on the lower side.
